Why I Am An Eco-Friendly Interior Designer Part 2

This is Michelle Banks Watt continuing my background.

Although I am an eco-friendly interior designer, I don’t consider myself a granola girl.  I love clothes and accessorizing myself, modern architecture and luxury cars, and I don’t often buy organic.  I’m not really a fashionista, either, though.   I fall somewhere in between…a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n roll.

My designs tend to be somewhere between something Ed Begley would be proud of: bamboo and sisal floors with organic cotton everywhere and “unique luxury” with exotic woods, stones, and materials scouted from all over the world.  I try and prioritize with my clients the level of green that works for them, and help them make choices accordingly.   I try to seek out and use local resources as much as possible, specify natural fiber carpet, hardwood floors from managed forests, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and energy efficient appliances.   I always insist on a recycling area in the house, even if it’s just a pull-out bin in the kitchen.   With the shift in our global attitude toward the earth, our recycling efforts will expand and so will the space we will need to accomplish it.
