Tell us about your work.

Mosaic Construction is a general contracting firm specializing in both residential exterior work and multi family and commercial renovation work.  Our company works with homeowners to create beautiful, maintenance free, energy efficient solutions for their window, siding, roof, gutter and downspout replacement needs.  Creating aesthetically pleasing exterior finishes while combining high quality products are key to our success.  We also work with owner/operators of commercial real estate and have important relationships with property managers and bankers.  The multi family and commercial projects focus on apartment and condominium/town home communities and retail and commercial spaces.  Our extensive product knowledge and strong relationships with our trade contractors and vendors are paramount to our success.  Building comprehensive schedules for our clients are important management tools that help keep our projects on track.  We have worked on low income, student and senior housing properties.  Many of our projects require attention to conservation, efficiency and accessibility issues.

What are some of the issues that pertain to green contracting?

Green contracting starts with an understanding of the impact the project will have on the environment.   At the demolition phase, a project can be ‘greener’ by separating the debris into recyclable materials and true ‘waste only’ materials.  Projects are greener when old materials have been re-purposed or sold to a salvage company to reduce the amount of waste.  A great deal of attention is being paid to the tax credits that are available from the government.  Owners can help themselves and the environment by choosing ‘smarter’ products when they remodel.  Products that reduce heat loss (windows and doors, insulation), products that help a home or building cost less to operate (high-efficiency water heaters, furnaces, boilers, solar water and heat) and products that focus on conservation (low flow plumbing fixtures and CFL bulbs) are some of the ways Mosaic advises its clients on green contracting practices.  Fortunately, our industry has many product solutions that are green.  As a trusted partner in a project, we advocate for the environment by using our knowledge and our relationships to bring attention to eco-friendly remodeling choices.

  1. I just like the approach you took with this subject. It’s not typical that you simply discover a subject so to the point and informative.
